Area of physical therapy or work with a particular type of patient: Orthopedic outpatient clinic with a focus on the athletic population.
Why I became a PT: As a kid, I had always been interested in both the medical world and sports. As a freshman in high school, I injured my neck and had to go to a physical therapist for a few weeks. From that point on, I was interested in physical therapy, as it seemed to be a potential for a combination of my interests. I realized that I could do something I was passionate about and help people at the same time.
Profession History: After PT school, I worked with the Baylor Scott and White organization for 7 years. I worked at a multidisciplinary clinic that treated both orthopedic and neuro patients for 6 years. I then transferred to a clinic that was more solely based on orthopedics, with a primary focus on “athletes” for the last year.
Education: I got my Bachelor of Science Degree (Major – Exercise and Sports Science. Minor- Psychology) from the University of Texas Tech. I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where I was born and raised.
Professional Certifications/Additional Training/Awards:
– Titleist Performance Institute level 1 Certification
– TPDN (Trigger point dry needling) Certification
